Oak Flats, Port Kembla and Wests do well in junior cricket
Going into the final two rounds of the combined Illawarra/South Coast junior cricket competitions, Oak Flats leads the under 16A competition from Thirroul, Balgownie and Corrimal with Dapto and Wests Illawarra still in the hunt for a semis berth.
In the under 16B competition, Port Kembla has a healthy lead over Kiama which is closely followed by Keira, Wests Illawarra, Gerringong and Warilla Sports.
Wests Illawarra is undefeated in the under 14As while Shellharbour has only dropped one game on the first innings. Keira which has won 5 games from 8 and Balgownie with 4 from 8 make up the top four. Corrimal in fifth spot would appear to have an outside chance of making the four.
McCrae top scores as Edwards compiles second century
Hayden McCrae has scored 119 not out for Helensburgh in round 7 of the combined Illawarra/South Coast under 16A junior cricket competition to lead the batting honour board in that competition. Oak Flats’ Ryan Maguire also scored a ton (103 not out) in round 7. Of the other 7 century makers in the competition so far, Oak Flats’ Nathan Brown is the only player to score two hundreds. Hayden McCrae has just missed out on having two centuries to his name, having also scored 95 in round 4.
In round 9 of the combined under 14A competition, Tyler Edwards of Wests Illawarra scored 116 not out. This was his second century for the competition, having scored 100 not out in round 3. Other centuries in the competition have been scored by Shellharbour’s Jake Edwards, Corrimal’s Daniel Baldwin and Thomas McDevitt. Up to round 9, no centuries had been scored in the 16B competition with 96 in round 1 from Keira’s Christopher Moore still best, although Helensburgh’s Isaac Shaw was unlucky to finish on 95 not out also in round 1.

West Illawarra’s Rahil Verma led the bowlers in round 7 of the under 16A combined Illawarra/South Coast competition by taking 5 wickets for 32 runs off 9.2 overs against Balgownie. This bowling performance shows his outstanding all round ability as previously in round 4 he had scored 100 not out following his 92 in round 2.
Thomas Fogarty of Jamberoo/Albion Park was best of the bowlers in round 6 taking 5 for 22. Still topping the 16A bowling list is Jamberoo/Albion Park’s Alex Bruce who had taken 6 for 43 in round 1 against Wests Illawarra.
